Home News Duels 2013 DLC returns to Ravnica with 5 new decks

Stainless and Wizards should know by now: if you put it in the code, gamers will find it.

Just as with Duels 2012’s DLC leaks, the gamers at the official Magic the Gathering forums have uncovered what is 99% likely to be the next five (yes, five) decks for everyone’s favorite alternative to real-life cardboard addiction.

And not a moment too soon after players shared their misgivings of not having enough ways to test manual mana tapping, it turns out all five new decks represent multicolored Ravnica guilds: Azorius, Golgari, Izzet, Rakdos, and Selesnya.

Each deck features the typical 60 card base set plus normal gameplay unlocks, including promo unlocks. Update: It has now been confirmed that these decks will be available for download on September 19, 2012 for $5 (total).

  1. I was playing local 2HG with a friend against the AI to unlock cards when the Azorious deck showed up on the other end of the table, we were really baffled by it, well now I know

  2. yeah, thx for the deck info, now im still going with unlocking my white deck, but aafter that, let the DLC come ,ill be ready for it :)

  3. i love these decks. a huge field of new mechanics is comming, nice! i really love the 2013 version so far. very funny decks. but i hope with those dlcs we got some love for the standard decks. is there any information for promo-unlokcs for the standard/core decks?

because, for example, jace`s mill deck, which is very funny and not so broken(regarding the format) as 2012’s, seems some lack of powerlevel compared to these. but we’ll see. some things shine brighter than they actually are.

imo there is no problem with demonic tutor. i know why it is broken and will never see a reprint, but which card do you want do search with it in this deck that results in an near auto win? what i try to say here is: stoneforge mystic, which is surely as broken as tutor, wouldnt be a prob in dotp 2012 if gideons deck wouldn featured sword of war and peace or this silver-armor. if the strongest equipment would have been a loxodon warhammer for example, it would generate alot of trouble for the opponent, but he would just face +3 dmg and lifelink in a weenie deck where you surely can digg out of.

so, the best way to use tutor would be to search for a another vengeance demon in time so u can get the other two out of the GY. or to get a terminate/blight in time. every other card strong card have high mana costs, and you should be in a postion to handle those tutored cards when they come out. of course this placeholder is, in real magic, the most broken placeholder for every card in deck, but when these cards have a comparable powerlevel to the other decks, its just a 4 mana terminate or 7 mana vengeance demon, which you whould be able to deal with. with stone forge mystic, for example, you could actually cheat out crads for less than their mana cost AND searh them out of your libary. tutor is just a search. if we would have free deckbuild in dotp2013 i would curse wizard forever to break this format. but in one of it in this deck. i can deal with it.

    • and btw: i really really really hope, besides the ravnica theme, hey release an infect and an artifact deck. ofc ravnica is comming, but mirrodin is rotating out. some love for this block to remember!

  4. I was supposed to get to 13126 hp but it turns out the max is 9999 … i feel like playin final fantasy x and i need break hp limit. Celestial Light is such a joke of a deck u never lose hp … there’s this rhino that doubles u’re hp gain and a spell that doubles u’re hp 2 creatures that add 1 hp each for each monster played by anyone and a enchant that if u do direct dmg to a creature u get u’re hp doubled … so there’s no way u can lose also a lv 2 creep (lv means mana cost) that starts with 2/2 and gets +1/1 for each time u’re healed, but in a 4v4 free for all u can pull smth like this way too easy i hope the dlc’s gonna have some balancing added too to this deck.

    • You can easily lose with Celestial Light in 1v1 if your opponent is smart about removal/disruption. I faced a guy at 80 life yesterday but he couldn’t attack me at all thanks to Fog Banks. When he tried to destroy them, I countered it.

Ultimately I created 20 copies of a 5/3 flier and attacked for 3 turns to win.

      • you don’t get it do u … i reached max hp in a game where u start with 20 hp and i reached over 9000 dbz vegita would be amazed to that too and yeh it’s easy to win vs light 1v1 depending on luck but don’t forget those 2 enchants that make that deck so op … the +3/0 trample and lifelink that can be removed and added at will and the one that adds deathtouch also if u take into consideration those creatures of 2/2 that everytime u get healed they increse by 1/1 … i reached at 85 attack with trample and deathtouch on a creature … it was pacified but still 85/82… and i had one more at 35/35. in a celestial vs celestial … i had 2400+ hp and he had 300+ … we just wouldn’t die it was going on forever … i just got lucky with that creature if u have over 40hp u automaticly win … that’s even more op than everything else.

    • Excuse me, but mimimi.
If you think Celestial Light is so overpowered, then you might want to either play it yourself or build a deck around countering it. Protip: CL has NO way to remove creatures or force them into combat. Also, if you counter out their Doomsday Devices, like Celestial something, the life doubler, and a heavily charged White Sun’s Zenith, they’re basically screwed because Celestial Light doesn’t really bring all that many scary creatures or spells with it.

Not to say that it can’t be slightly uber, but it’s also easy to completely screw their day over when you disrupt their chain. Celestial Light is built heavily around comboing one card into another. Disrupt one part of the chain and all will fall apart.

(On a related note: My most recent Planechase match. Soul Warden, Pearl Medaillon, 14 untapped Plains, Trail of Mage Rings as a Plane and White Sun’s Zenith. That resulted in a LOT of angry kitties.)

      • Agreed. CL is really bad at generating card advantage. If you remove its 1-3 win conditions the deck is screwed. It may take you a few turns to swing and win, but you WILL win.

    • Wow, you are so wrong. It’s amazing how wrong you really are. The blue mill deck? Yeah your life total means absolute shit when I have you milled out turn 6.

Stop playing against the AI and play against REAL people.

No one deck is OP or set to win you everything. .

      • i can count on one hand how many times ive lost to that mill deck. smash it with goblins nearly every time

      • Yeah Jace’s deck has almost no defense vs aggro. I am shocked they didn’t give it like 3x Sleep, or an Evacuation or two, or ANY WALLS AT ALL.

  5. That Izzet deck is very slow… No one drops and only 2 two drops… I love U/R combination and I loved cloudburst in 2012… this will have a hard time vs aggro decks..

  6. No Bruna, Light of Alabaster in the Azorius deck? Missed opportunity, that would have been one of the very few chances to actually see her in action. :(

  7. No Bruna, Light of Alabaster in the Azorius deck? Missed opportunity, that would have been one of the very few chances to actually see her perform. :(

  8. Hey iv been playing since the 09 version and never before with the cards so im still a bit new to all this. What do they mean by promo unlocks?

  9. Panotopic Mirror + Time Warp = Win. (5 mana, 2 turns.)

The noobies take about 3 of your turns to realize they will never get another turn again. It is so sweet to pull off.

  10. There are going to be a lot of new players screaming at the screen because they don’t understand how demigod of revenge triggers work.

    Funsies.

  11. The unlock codes for these decks will be given out at the Magic Celebration event (Sep. 8) or the prerelease for Return to Ravnica. Just depends when they release the DLC

  12. I went to a mini tournament on September 9th and they handed out fliers for return to ravnica, They had promo codes on them that were like 6 letters long. I cannot recall the first three, but I think the last three were “RSX”. Does anyone have the code? It would be very much appreciated.

  13. Sweet the dlc is coming out on September 19th I couldnt find that information anywhere. Im going to get it for sure, thanks Wingspantt.

  14. Omg… I don’t know if anyone realizes how good the B/R looks for 1v1.

The G/W deck just looks like a different take on peacekeepers. Maybe a slightly better one from the looks of it.

The G/B decks has some very interesting and powerful cards…

These are the three I’m most excited to play…

  15. I’ve been checking almost daily for when this DLC comes out, thanks a lot for the info! I figured it would coincide with the Return to Ravinica pre-release on Sept. 29, so this is great news to get it 10 days earlier!

Jesters Cap vs. the CL deck will be a headache that I can’t wait to take advantage of. Grinning Malice looks like fun too :)

I know you haven’t put up all of the deck guides for the original 10 yet, but is there any chance you could jump to these builds asap? Even just quick deck builds, no need to go into detail for each card. Thanks for all the help Wing!

      • I don’t think Jesters Cap is very good though… I’m pretty sure I already know what winspantt’s deck is going to look like. Time warps, 1 damage tap abilities/spells, mana leaks, and lots of card advantage spells to keep the cycle going…

  16. Does maelstorm pulse works against tokens right? Like peacekeeper tokens? It’s going to be quite a fearsome card in this game…

    • It’s super expensive and doesn’t look like that much bang for the buck… Unless i’m missing something…

  17. I’m in Italy, i played with a guy from US and he had a new deck and a new avatar, but i still can’t find the DLC in the PSN -.-
