Home News Looks like T3 is going to E3!

All of your questions will be answered, unless they're about Half Life 3.

It’s official, Rabid Ferret and I* are going to the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Exposition, also known as E3, this June. With pencils, cameras, and iPads in hand,** we’ll be ready to drool over report on all of the expo’s happenings straight from the floor of the Los Angeles Convention Center. And if nothing cool takes place, I guess we’ll just go to Vegas and upload pictures of me losing all my money and crying on the phone.

For those of you not in the know, E3 is the largest and most action-packed gaming industry expo, with large announcements from major developers including Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. And with pervasive rumors of a new console announcement from The Big N this year, the convention will be eventful if nothing else. In years past, these three giants have unveiled gems such as the Wii Vitality Sensor, the $599 Playstation 3, and a 6-year old child playing Kinectimals.

While we have lots of questions we want to ask the litany of developers present, we’d like to know… what do you want from us?

E3 will undoubtedly continue to receive an incredibly large amount of gaming media coverage, but unlike most other sites attending, Top Tier Tactics is so poorly funded uniquely positioned to have an open ear to the community’s wants and needs. To that end, please tell us how we can deliver the best coverage possible:

  • Which exhibiting companies should we talk to? What should we ask them?
  • What kind of coverage do you feel is lacking in traditional gaming “journalism” outlets that we can provide?
  • What games and genres are you hoping to hear about? Why?
  • What are your thoughts on the last E3, and what do you hope will be different this time?
  • Do you want live updates, or will you be turning to cooler, more popular sites for such information?
  • What do you expect will be the most prominent showings this year?
  • Who will get trampled to death first, WiNGSPANTT or Rabid Ferret?

*And possibly Space Hamlet, but only if he pays for my plane ticket.
**Provided Rabid Ferret buys me an iPad.

  1. Just don’t be like IGN. They write their articles on E3 a few weeks in advance and then just go and play games and go to parties :P

  2. I reckon the trampling is based on the overall amount of fangirls there..

So my vote goes with the ferret.

(My logic is flawless, question it and face my blue paint from this portal 2 tin!)

  3. Congrats on going. I can only assume you guys were invited as press, otherwise you wouldn’t be asking us what to ask everyone else. (Unfortunately I have nothing useful to suggest — I never end up following E3 that closely.)

  4. There really isn’t anything that’s not going to be covered by some random guy gaming website reporter,
so you could aswell try to do some stuff extraordinaire.

    Example:
If Max Von Sydow (the narrator of the Skyrim trailers) is hanging around the Bethesda booth, you could make him do an awesome intro speech for your website going like ‘No one wanted to believe it, but when the truth finally dawns, it dawns on TOPTIERTACTICS DOT COM.’

Yeah, pretty much stuff like that lol

Also, you might bump into Spoony (if he’s there). I’m jelly.

    • Pretty sure that the idea of frequent, reasonably priced episodic games isn’t in the mind of the Valve gents any more; it’s far more likely that they’d mash it all into Half-Life 3.

    • Kinda gotta go with PhyOS on Episode 3. Episode 1 and 2 were like a roadtrip movie, and I think the trip to the ship will be Episode 3 and like my question further down, I hope they put the ship in episode 3 but that might be the start to HL3, main point being Freeman may not have all the tools available to destroy the contents of the ship and may have to collect them.

  5. that is so cool go T3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. If you could pester the Nintendo reps over and over about Earthbound or Mother 3 and get a straight yes or no answer from them, you’d be even more of my hero.

  7. Wow, this is friggin incredible. I would have never imagined you guys getting to this sort of point. Grats on you!

And check out Edios Montreal if you can.

    • Now for the actual list of questions >>

What kind of coverage do you feel is lacking in traditional gaming “journalism” outlets that we can provide?

I real lack on getting the impressions right out of seeing it rather than actually deliberating on it. After seeing an exhibit, write down your thoughts THEN AND NOW and later you can balance it against your marinated thoughts.

What games and genres are you hoping to hear about? Why?

Deus Ex/Edios, Skyrim, VALVe stuff. All of them have reputations behind them, so ya.

What are your thoughts on the last E3, and what do you hope will be different this time?

Last E3 was great for info and stuff but I feel the biggest problem was the volume of particular exhibits versus others. As Spoony commented, no one gave a crap about the Move. I’d like to see there actually be equal representation this time around.

Do you want live updates, or will you be turning to cooler, more popular sites for such information?

      Both.

What do you expect will be the most prominent showings this year?

Nintendo with their details on the newer 3DS line-up (I do not expect them to reveal a new console there due to that device, maybe at Tokyo Game Show but not E3), VALVe with HL3, Rockstar with the next GTA, Ubisoft with the next Assassin’s Creed, more Skyrim details, and maybe the Wii’s end line-up.

Who will get trampled to death first, WiNGSPANTT or Rabid Ferret?

WiNG. No flying the Expo hall.

      • I don’t think any of us thought it would get to this point. And with the amount of information coming from fairly credible sources, I’m willing to bet the rumors of the new console being announced are true.

As for Valve, my fingers are crossed for Episode 3, but more likely they’ll be showing of L4D3.

  8. Question #1. Fire Exits. Where they are and how do the handles work. ALWAYS have an escape route ready.

Question #2. Will Episode 3 feature a road trip to the Borealis, or the ship itself, or both?

Those are the main ones from me, truth is I could continue forever with questions about batman, anything from crytek, etc . .. .

Main thing have fun, and be careful. Godspeed, Gentlemen.

  9. If Valve doesn’t show some episode 3 then they will show Dota 2 and no one knows anything about that other than they are making it. Get some info on that stuff. ;)

  10. Mass Effect 3 please!

Oh fuckberries. It would be extremely awesome if you guys “coincidently” bump into Ubisoft at E3. Please, please pester them on AC3 and its multiplayer, and whether or not we’ll see any improvements on ACB’s MP server problems, maybe extra stuff they’re working on, the works. It seems like any person connected to Ubi has dropped off the face of the planet since the DLC came out.

    • EDIT

If there even is a multiplayer for AC3.

Even though it’d be totally worth the money I plan to invest into the game, it’s pointless if the obvious problems and glitches aren’t corrected.

  11. So since the new nintendo console has been officially announced for E3, and since it will be “playable by everyone” at E3, you need to check it out!
