This topic isn’t concerning games themselves, so I hope it is alright to post this. But I know a few people here record their games, and I’m hoping for a solution to a problem I’ve experienced.

For the record, I am using a Dazzle 100, with Pinnacle Studio 14.

Basically, the audio I am recording does not synch with the gameplay video. It wouldn’t be so bad if I could simply move the sound ahead/behind and synch it up myself, but the audio gets progressively worse as the video goes on. I can synch the first few seconds, but 10 seconds later it will be horribly behind again. The video also speeds up a little by itself, so whether the issue is more with the audio or with the video is difficult to say.

I know some of you use Hauppauge – unfortunately, that’s not something I’m able to afford right now. If anyone has any suggestions for me to try, I’ll gladly listen. I have googled the problem, but I’m finding so many suggestions, and comments saying these do work and don’t work, that I have no idea where to even start.

RudeOnion, can you explain exactly how you have your Dazzle set up?

Also just for the record the default Dazzle software (Pinnacle) is kind of glitchy. Try other input settings or, failing that, there is other capture software out there that will work. Try VirtualDub or CamStudio! Another warning: VirtualDub works great but the interface is VERY non-user friendly.

I have laptop – Dazzle – 3 splitters – two AV cables branching off to the tv and the console. In Pinnacle I played around with the settings, and the first game that I recorded after that worked fine. Then the next time, without changing any settings, the audio was lagging. It seems pretty hit and miss.

I’ll look into those – thanks! Is VirtualDub what you use?

I used to use VDub but it’s not necessary with a PVR (which uses proprietary software).

VDub is definitely more reliable than Pinnacle, once you get it working. You will have to toy with it a lot.
