My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section of the forum. It’s not my intention to hunt for strategy tips, but to voice an idea I had recently. But if you feel the need to move this, by all means, do :)

To the point: This isn’t a thread complaining about the upcoming tournament. Wing had the foresight to create a thread specifically for that :P No, this is simply my idea for Assassinate, and I was hoping folks here could voice their opinion on whether it’s a good idea or not.

In the end, what will it accomplish? Absolutely not a god-damn thing.

To the point (for real this time): What if Assassinate went entirely HUD-less?

No, shut up. Listen. Already it gives you the least amount of information of any other mode. The ring at the bottom (I feel) is convoluted and can be confusing to read. Get rid of it and rely entirely on your own two eyes scanning the crowd for those deviating from the norm. Since you pick your own targets anyway, get rid of what vague target information you have (the character portrait), as it’s unneeded. Simply keep your eyes on someone who acts suspiciously. Of course the terrible ‘expose’ mechanic would be long gone, so either they continue to act un-NPC-like and you kill them, or they blend in perfectly and you trail off to find someone else.

The use of abilities I’m on the fence on, yet. I feel they add something good to the gameplay, but you’d need access to the cooldown counters, which calls back in the need for a HUD. So for now I’m leaning toward no access to abilities, either.

Whispers would remain in place.

No, it would not be a very highscoring mode, and maybe some of you lose interest immediately. I think it’d be a great place though to really practice picking out your pursuers and trailing your targets. Hell, maybe once in a while an entire game would go by without a simple kill. Which is why I would also propose greatly upping the amount of points someone does get from a kill, further encouraging people not to stay camped out in a single area through a game.

The aiming reticle would be gone, but would still function normally. You could still pick out targets from the same distance – you just have to focus on aiming a bit more.

Maybe absolutely everyone hates this idea, and think that the HUD-less idea is totally brain-less. Maybe a few folks think it merits a vague interest. Maybe everyone here are huge fans of Assassinate as it is and have zero desire to change it (*cough*). I just think that of any mp game, AC has the ability to create an entirely HUD-less mode, and that’d be something fairly cool to try.

Without use of a radar, things may get boring on a full-size map due to you walking around so much, so it might be better to stick with Deathmatch-sized maps, but with duplicates of course.

In terms of stealthiness, I think part of the issue isn’t that you can easily find a target, it’s that you are notified if you become a target and if you’ve been exposed. If you want to just fix Assassinate, then remove any notifications that you’ve been locked on or have locked on to your pursuer (and of course, removing the approach meter drain). But if you want to do something fresh, then removing radar will be nice too.

Yeah – I was mostly thinking of ways to simply improve Assassinate (namely, getting rid of the “expose” mechanic), but then I got to thinking about it further. I wouldn’t mind if this WAS Assassinate, nor would I mind if this was a different mode. I like the idea of making the maps smaller – I think that’s absolutely necessary, along with duplicates (wouldn’t be much challenge to just memorizing which characters were in it and picking them out, heh).

Mainly, I just like the idea of having a HUD-less mode.
