You asked for it, you got it. WiNGSPANTT presents his thoughts on deck construction for Dark Heavens, the latest Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 DLC addition. He’s worked to cut the crap out of the deck so you can just copy his plan. Pretty generous, no?

Completely unbiased Modern Warfare 3 overview

Let’s just get this out of the way. Rabid Ferret does not like Modern Warfare 3. He does not approve of how this franchise is quite literally the same game over and over again with nothing changed. If you want to hear him rant about how terrible it is, you’ve come to the right place.

MTG Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 first DLC list leaked

Jun 22, 2011 21 Comments by

For the price of a single tournament entry, you can have dozens (if not hundreds) of hours of geeky fun, with low-price expansions that don’t feel like they’re “buy this or you’ll lose” inherently.

To that effect, I’m excited not only to learn that the first DLC is coming for MTG:DOTP:2012, but that it once again features my perennial favorite combination, Blue/Red.

How is it possible that the same company that’s making Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition is also responsible for Marvel vs Cashgrab 3?

AC Brotherhood DLC: Da Vinci Disappearance, featuring new Assassinate and Escort game modes

Mar 12, 2011 16 Comments by

With Ubisoft’s latest Brotherhood DLC available for about a week now, I’ve had an opportunity to delve into the new multiplayer modes, Escort and Assassinate. Don’t misunderstand; the single player experience of Brotherhood (and its predecessors) is exceptionally entertaining, but with tight work constraints and demands from my legions dozens of fans to produce Assassin’s Creed videos, I’ve yet to set aside ample time to explore the game’s single player offerings. As far as I’ve been told, they include an interesting story addition, the gambling games at the thieves’ den, and the ability to punch mimes in the face.

Don’t get taken for a ride: Why I haven’t bought MvC3 yet

Feb 18, 2011 19 Comments by

A lot of series have dealt with the pressure of a decade-in-the-making sequel: Team Fortress, Starcraft, Duke Nukem (to say the least). And when the fanbase has waited half their existing life for a game, it means two things: the developer has a lot to live up to, but they also have a guaranteed hit.

As far as shareholders go, a guaranteed hit is a great thing. As far as gamers go, it’s usually not. Developers will more than likely fall short of expectations, especially when they know they can cut corners, squeeze in profit-generating schemes, and rely on happy memories to whitewash the kinks in the experience. Of course, it all depends on the developer.

Luckily, we all know Capcom would never exploit nostalgia.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’s new free DLC is just as amazing as it is in real life

Dec 15, 2010 5 Comments by

You know how I feel about Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and you know how I feel about things that cost zero dollars, so it should come as no surprise that I’m fairly happy about Ubisoft’s decision to release at least two free multiplayer DLC packs. Though unimaginatively titled Animus 1.0 and Animus 2.0 updates, you can’t really complain when the price is right.

Right at zero.

(It’s free.)

What do these updates include? Animus 2.0 is rumored to contain some new maps and a new gameplay mode. Animus 1.0 boasts similar features, introducing Advanced Alliance mode (it’s Alliance, only the game gives you fewer hints) and two new maps based on Mont Saint Michel. At this point you should be emptying your bowels into your pants, because Mont Saint Michel is unarguably the most interesting place in France.* Why? Well, for one, Mont Saint Michel is a castle built on a mountain in a tidal pool that transforms it into an island fortress during high tide.

Helm’s Deep, eat your fucking heart out.

Serge’s Gaming Addiction: Dragon Quest IX

Dec 03, 2010 14 Comments by

Dragon Quest IX is a jRPG for the Nintendo DS, released on July 11th, 2010. I bought this game day 1 and proceeded to beast through the main story. It combines both the old school jRPG feel that Dragon Quest is known and famous for, while adding a few new ideas, such as multiplayer gameplay and fully modeled equipment, similar to that found in an MMORPG. The main story lasts anywhere between 40-50 hours, which is more or less the standard for modern jRPGs, and quite impressive for a DS release. So, why have so many people sunk so many hours into this game if the story only takes 50 hours? Well, the main story is really nothing but a tutorial for what is to come. That’s not to say the main story isn’t fun. The story, while pretty cliched and done in a standard monster-of-the-week format, is fun enough to run your way through, with tons of interesting characters and funny puns. Once you beat the final boss of the story though, you are given free reign.
