More E3 2011 videos from WiNGSPANTT’s channel

Jun 15, 2011 5 Comments by

In case you haven’t spent every waking minute hitting F5 on my YouTube channel, I posted a good number of videos relating to our E3 escapades over the past week. While I’ll spare you the trauma of watching them on the front page, you can look forward to some of the following insanity after the break:

Hands-on gameplay and thoughts on Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
World exclusive PowerUp Heroes versus mode gameplay
Wii U Ghost Recon Online gameplay and controls
Wii U Battle Mii tech demonstration gameplay
Rampant misogyny and objectification of women
And much, much more!*

Shmoozing into Nintendo’s keynote: E3 rewards lying, ninjutsu

Jun 14, 2011 7 Comments by

While Rabid Ferret and I took great exception to not being invited to E3 as VIP press members, we can’t say we’re surprised. After all, our site traffic, impressive as it may be, is probably only 60% the volume seen by larger media venues such as Kotaku and Destructoid.* Regardless, we were still a little sad Nintendo didn’t extend a welcoming hand to us for its 2011 press conference. After all, I owned a Nintendo Wii for almost eight straight months!

Knowing full well the Big N would be unveiling a new system this year, Ferret convinced me that we could get in. “WiNG, I believe in hopes, dreams, and the endless power of the human spirit,” he said.** “I know we can get in if we try.”

Staring into his soulless “eyes” I could feel the universe unraveling around me. Behind him, the hordes of “journalists” crowded Nintendo’s doors at the Nokia Theater. This would be tough, but if anyone could do it, I could. I had the wit, the charm, and the humility to succeed.

I crossed the street and stepped directly into the path of an oncoming taxi.

Nintendo 3DS Update: The Nintendo eShop

Jun 13, 2011 7 Comments by

Phew, it has been awhile, hasn’t it? I’ve been busy trying to graduate and whatnot, by being diligent and taking summer classes while juggling a job at the same time. These are also reasons why I couldn’t go to LA for E3 like others from T3. However, that’s not to say I haven’t been diligently preparing for my next articles while throwing knives at a dartboard with pictures of the people who did get to go to E3! There has been quite the activity in the digital realm of gaming, enough to talk about in not 1, but 2 articles! Exciting, I know. I’ll start off with the event that technically happened first, although the divide wasn’t really that large between the 2 events. But, I’m anal about this sort of thing, so deal with it. Let’s talk about the shiny new 3DS eShop and Virtual Console.

Top Tier Talkcast #002: E3 Extravaganza

Jun 11, 2011 7 Comments by

E3 is over, but that doesn’t mean Top Tier Tactics can’t milk its content for all it’s worth for another week or so!

On Wednesday, Rabid Ferret, Space Hamlet and I met up to record a mid-expo Talkcast to discuss the things we’ve seen, the people we’ve met, and the merits of various ferret-based research charities. And while our audio quality may have been marred by things like not having a real internet connection or not having access to real recording equipment, it was bolstered by the triumph of the human spirit… and if that doesn’t make it awesome, I don’t know what does.

Two big problems that could kill the Wii U – from E3 2011

Jun 10, 2011 16 Comments by

After talking our way into the Nintendo E3 2011 press conference,* Ferret and I had the distinct honor of watching** Iwata-san unveil what would quickly become the talk of the event: the new Nintendo Wii U.

It has a camera, a gyroscope, a touchscreen, real buttons, analog sticks, and wireless streaming capabilities. If it didn’t cook me dinner I’d be fucking astonished.

And, true to form, the entire Nintendo presentation had an air of magic to it, offering a none-too-subtle suggestion that just like the Wii, the Wii U could magically change gamers’ lives. Just like the Wii. What could possibly go wrong?

After playing the new system in person, I’m pretty sure there are precisely two things that can and will go wrong with the Wii U.
