Home Editorial Balance All 100 Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 promo cards

Well, shit.

Remember the Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 DLC leak that hinted at IRL-locked content? Turns out it’s true.

Wizards of the Coast has recently announced a Duels 2013 tie-in with San Diego Comic Con. According to their own Magic Arcana, attendees can “Pick up Magic swag including a Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 promo code, which will unlock one new playable card in each of your decks accessed through game play.”

But it turns out you won’t have to attend in person! Many of the Duels 2013 promo card codes have already been leaked (batch 1, batch 2) and they’re all free. Since Wizards made these codes universal, they’ve been made readily available as soon as each was discovered by a single fan.

  1. I’m guessing we’re going to have them all packaged with a later DLC. That said, if they’re not, I’m tapping all of my IRL swamps and going to town on someone.

  2. If you have to pay for not only decks but “special unlocks” I might as well start playing paper magic again…
Now seriously, some of those unlocks are disgustingly sick…

  3. Those are some extremely high power curve cards there. I’m hoping to maybe pick up this game soon, but if there’s going to be doing this then I’m not quite as sure.

I’m going to wait to see if there will be another way to unlock these, that’s for sure. Thanks for the head’s up WiNG.

    • i love how, in an attempt to garner interest in paper magic, wizards may also be alienating would-be greenhorns from trying out the noob- and wallet-friendly digital version of the game…

that said – and wizards having been in the business of promoting magic: the gathering for nearly 20 years – i would bet my fire hazardous closet-full of basic lands that these unlocks will be available via an alternate, agorophobic friendly method in the unforseeable future…

      can’t wait!

  4. Why they don’t just add 2x Laboratory Maniac to the blue pile so using a Muse + Prosperity and Mines deck is not completely crap? Right now the only way to use it is straight mill which is pretty bad and basically a coin flip, or U control. And why Phyrexian Metamorph is not on the list is beyond me. Quite surprising that they didn’t add Elesh Norn for peacekeepers as well.

  5. @Quake

Some of them are good (Titan, Wurm, Obliterator) but the deck has bombs. It needs more utility like another infest or mutilate.
